John Sununu will be presented a report card on his Iraq votes through a press event Friday at 11 a.m. in Concord at the Lobby of the Legislative Office Building.
The grades are in on the first semester of Iraq Summer, and John Sununu has not done well. He voted against cloture, obstructing an up-or-down vote in the Senate on the Levin-Reed amendment to this year’s defense authorization bill. The amendment calls for withdrawing all troops by March 31, 2008. Sununu voted the same way for a bill that would have brought the troops home by July 1 of this year. He voted against bringing them home by the end of 2006. And he voted for giving the Bush Administration whatever money it wanted, without details on what that money bought. More than 70 percent of the American public is calling for the withdrawal of nearly all troops from Iraq by April. A recent New Hampshire poll had 65 percent of New Hampshire citizens calling for withdrawal. John Sununu has voted against his constituents’ wishes time after time. Is your municipality ready for a Seabrook disaster or the overdue Boston-area earthquake? What if terrorists target state facilities or large businesses in your town? What if the 51.2 billion gallons of water behind the Hopkinton - Everett Lakes complex come tumbling down on us? Every town in this state should be asking similar, locale-specific questions in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The mission of Citizen Corps, a vital component of the federal government’s USA Freedom Corps, is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds. The Citizen Corps mission is accomplished through a national network of state, local, and tribal Citizen Corps Councils. These Councils build on community strengths to implement the Citizen Corps programs and can carry out a local strategy to have every resident participate. WAL-MART: The High Cost of Low PricesTue, 11/15/2005 - 7:00pm Anniccchairico Theatre, 1 Thompson Street, Concord WAL-MART: The High Cost of Low Price takes the viewer on a deeply personal journey into the everyday lives of families struggling to fight goliath. From a family business owner in the Midwest to a preacher in California, from workers in Florida to a poet in Mexico, dozens of film crews on three continents bring the intensely personal stories of an assault on families and American values. Wal-Mart distributed $21 million in political donations in the 2004 election cycle- making the retail giant the top donor among retailers in America. And why wouldn’t they grease the wheels of those who continue the largess of Walmart corporate welfare- that which is funding the expansion of Wal-Mart stores across the country, and the basic needs of workers in each store?
