DemocratsThe binary fallacy and the end of both partiesDemocratic loyalists are acting as though the Republican demise is an accomplishment on their part. It is as though their understated -- but very complicit -- support of the Republican policies of empire and wealth transfer to the ultra wealthy will go unnoticed. The Binary Fallacy and The End of Both Parties 06/06/09 SOURCE: The People's Voice, BY: Michael Collins (Wash., DC) The results of eight years of Bush-Cheney at the helm make the demise of the Republican Party an easy call. Our financial system is on life support. The major banks are insolvent, according to banking and legal authority William K. Black. If they're not, they're in intensive care. No matter how many trillions of dollars worth of infusions they receive, they're not making loans. The economy is in a free fall with growth down 6% a quarter and job losses running at nearly 600,000 a month. We're stuck in two catastrophic wars. Despite President Obama's election, we're viewed with suspicion and disregard throughout the world. What's the Opposite of Equality?
In the epic struggle between public officials and the will of the people, officials with an authoritarian bent frequently excuse themselves by arguing that they either don't know the will of the people or the people don't know what they want. This is a canard.

Public Officials' Preference for Privacy Prompted This
Our Senate majority leader, Maggie Hassan, being quoted in the New York Times
The Senate majority leader, Maggie Hassan, who has not publicly shared her opinion of same-sex marriage, said that Senate Democrats were "still having a lot of discussions" and that the testimony on Wednesday would figure heavily into their decisions.prompted me to send the following along to her office, as well as my own Senator, Amanda Merrill:

Up to their old tricks
An eagle-eyed editor at the Eagle-Tribune, serving our neighbors just to the south, got clued into the fact that some letters to the editor weren't quite on the up and up.
Actually, the real authors, employed by our old friend, the Dewey Square Group, gave themselves away. Here's how the Eagle Tribune sets up the report.

NH Young Democrats Support Equality
SOURCE:New Hampshire Young Democrats
April 14, 2009 From:Garth Corriveau
Copies of NHYD's resolution are being sent this week to the state senate, the governor and to our statewide membership. The resolution reads:
Martin/Bradley DebateThu, 04/16/2009 - 7:00pm Sandwich Central School Visibility at 5:30 Progressive Dems of America: Kill NH's death penalty
Take Action to Abolish the Death Penalty
Last week the NH House of Representatives passed HB 556, repealing New Hampshire’s death penalty, and requiring a life sentence with no parole for those crimes now covered under the capital murder statute. The bill now goes to the State Senate. However, Gov. Lynch has already indicated he would veto the bill if it passes the Senate and reaches his desk, just as Gov. Shaheen did 9 years ago. We are encouraging you to join with the NH Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and ask you to take 3 actions in the next week: First, go to www.nodeathpenaltynh.org to join the NH Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and sign up for further e-mail updates. Second, contact your State Senator and urge a vote for passage of HB 556. Third, contact Gov. Lynch and let him know you want him to reconsider his position on the death penalty repeal. Evan Bayh and his Band of MOTHERS who KNOW what's BEST for their constituents
It's long been apparent that it's a mistake to assume that personal characteristics or experiences increase a person's level of compassion for others with similar life experiences. In fact, we have lots of examples of how negative experiences, in particular, are presumed to "toughen people up," with the consequence that the victims of abuse see it as their duty to pass it on. That's why physical and psychological abuse is often transmitted from generation to generation.

Sullivan announces bid for re-election Manchester Alderman
Peter Sullivan
For Alderman Dear Friend, I am writing to let you know that I will be seeking re-election to the Manchester Board of Aldermen. During my first term on the Board, I have fought to make city government more transparent, cost-effective, and accountable, to make our city more environmentally responsive , and to restore integrity to our local political process. We've come a long way, but there's still a lot of work ahead. Of course, these efforts have angered those who are tied to the shameful politics of the past. Notorious right-wing activist Joe Kelly Levasseur has said repeatedly that his top priority will be defeating me. We can't let Joe Kelly Levasseur, Keith Hirschmann, and their fellow practitioners of the politics of personal destruction bully their way back in to City Hall. I hope that you will make a contribution as I begin my race for re-election. Your financial support will help us to get out our positive message of hope and change, and fight the smears coming from Levasseur attack machine. Your help will ensure that progressive leadership stays on the job at City Hall. Please take a moment and donate online.
