NH PUC NEEDS OVERHAUL

The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission (PUC) does not stand for the consumer and needs to be overhauled. I ask that our legislature investigate the decisions of the PUC over the years and consider the following facts:

An Agenda For Change is Unveiled

I invite reader comments on my new e-book “For a United America – An Agenda For Change” available for free download at www.aamerica.us.

The book hypothesizes that the political challenges faced by the United States will not go away, regardless of which presidential candidate is chosen, because the political system itself has been weakened and the people have lost confidence in it. Unless the integrity of the political system is enhanced, the issues facing the nation are unlikely to be resolved.

The book pinpoints the disconnects that exist between the constituents and their representatives, and how partisan forces prevent progress on the issues. It outlines a comprehensive agenda for change that can strengthen the political system with the active support of the people, discusses how power-sharing arrangements in Congress can improve its outlook, and suggests how various political protocols can be strengthened to deal with political emergencies.

Alone as a State

Six of our Democratic State Senators voted against the seat belt law. On average, ten residents of New Hampshire needlessly die each year when they could continue to express their stupidity some other way. Just think of how righteous you could feel just driving around without a seat belt knowing that it was against the law as well as your moral duty to express your independence. Police, doctors, hospitals and anyone with a thought in their head know that it costs us money, the New Hampsire raison d'etre, both in Federal Highway funds and insurance costs as people continue to be killed and maimed as we have the lowest rate of seat belt use in the nation. One policeman said, "I've never had to unbuckle a dead body." Statements about knowing lots of people who have lost their lives because their seat belts jammed are just that - stories. Excuses for being lazy and stupid are nothing on which to build a majority. The blue color that we are trying to spread across New Hampshire should not b

Keith McCrea

Keith served four years as the Legislative Director of Toledo City Council in Ohio where he worked on legislation granting domestic partners benefits, opposing the PATRIOT Act, allowing Mexican nationals to use consular ID as legal identification, and, most importantly, to clarify where adults are allowed to bicycle. As a Senior Consultant with Burges & Burges, Keith wrote, shot, and produced ads for Democratic candidates and, as an activist, he has worked on a number of Democratic and Liberal campaigns in Ohio and Ontario even though he considers himself a leftist. His preferred forms of communication include the jeremiad, the philippic, and the tirade.

DFNH Fair Elections Conference fundraising appeal

As a co-drafter of the Request By Voters letter to Congress ( wethepatriots.org ), I have been working with Nancy Tobi to find workable reform solutions that support citizen oversight of our elections and election integrity. Nancy has been an influential and leading national activist, who understands the importance of the partnership between citizens and election officials in creating meaningful election reform. Your contribution to this fundraising appeal will allow Ms. Tobi to meet with top state and local election officials from across the nation and promote our efforts in working with them to ensure election integrity for our nation. Ms. Tobi has a proven record of success in her home state of New Hampshire in drafting and getting passed positive election legislation. We need this now for the nation, and your contribution will help bring us closer to that goal. -Bev Harris, Black Box Voting

Jeanne Ludt joins DFNH Board of Directors

For Immediate Release, December 30th, 2006

Souhegan School Board member Jeanne Ludt of Amherst joins Democracy for New Hampshire Board of Directors

(Concord – December 30th, 2006) Democracy for New Hampshire today announced that three-term Souhegan School Board member Jeanne Ludt of Amherst will join their board of directors beginning on January 1st. Ludt, a long-time activist and member of Women Making a Difference (WMD), fills a vacancy left by the resignation of Rep. Betty Hall (D-Brookline).

“I’m pleased to be joining DFNH’s board at a time when the organization is growing by leaps and bounds,” said Ludt, adding “The role that DFNH played in this fall’s elections and the efforts they’re planning during the upcoming presidential primary are very exciting and I look forward to helping out any way I can.”

Democracy for New Hampshire chair Nancy Tobi looks forward to having Jeanne on the board. “We worked closely with Jeanne and Women Making a Difference on numerous projects over the past year, including bringing nationally known election experts to a forum in Durham to discuss election issues this month.
We all know how committed she is to our goals – honest debate, fair elections, fiscal responsibility, and progressive social policy.”

Betty Hall leaves the board in order to pursue the position of New Hampshire State Democratic Chair. As a non-partisan organization, DFNH does not involve itself in party leadership decisions.
