The existence of the programme, set up after 9/11, was hidden for eight years and even now its nature is not known.

Why is it that when people are discovered doing wrong, they do the same thing over and over again? Is it because to stop is seen as an admission of guilt?

See Sami Tied in Knots

I have my own ideas about why Dr. Sami Al_Arian has been detained as a terrorist, tried and found not guilty and detained again for a total of over six years.

But, first I want to ask whether it's entirely a co-incidence that Jonathan Turley, the George Washington University professor and attorney, who's making regular appearances on Keith Olbermann's "Countdown" to support the call for prosecuting the Gang of Torture, has now surfaced as Dr. Al-Arian's attorney.

Why Are Trust-Fund Babies So Angry

The other day, Bill O'Reilly, the host of some program on FOX, indulged in a little rant, referring to bloggers as:

a bunch of left wing losers who were picked while in school and slinging the BS that you do somehow makes you feel better because your never had parents that supported you.
Some people were puzzled because it didn't seem to make any sense. But, if you assume that, as usual, O'Reilly, a Republican was ascribing to someone else (transferring) his own perception of how the world should be, it seems pretty straight forward. Bill O'Reilly thinks that people, who were advanced through their educational achievements, rather than via a trust-fund from their parents, as the people he envies are, are as angry as he has a right to be. He's intuited that trust-fund babies are angry and sympathizes, but probably doesn't know why.

Ah Secrecy! What Did Gregg Conceal?

Did Gregg Conceal Donors Who Received Millions In TSA Contracts While He Served As Aprops Chair?

Mark Nickolas on Feb 4, 2009

This week, President Obama nominated Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) as his Commerce secretary. Many Democrats and some Republicans aren't thrilled by the pick. For Democrats, Gregg's record in the Senate shows a strong conservative philosophy that is destined to clash with labor and side with big business. For Republicans, they see yet another open Senate seat in what has become deep blue territory (Obama won NH by 10 points and Jeanne Shaheen (D) defeated incumbent Sen. John Sununu (R) by 6 points).

Of Pirates and Parasitic Predators

You Are Being Lied to About Pirates
Johann Hari's report is one of many referred to in a KOS diary, outlining the predatory parasites infesting the waters off the Horn of Africa. His introductory paragraph runs as follows:
Who imagined that in 2009, the world's governments would be declaring a new War on Pirates? As you read this, the British Royal Navy - backed by the ships of more than two dozen nations, from the US to China - is sailing into Somalian waters to take on men we still picture as parrot-on-the-shoulder pantomime villains. They will soon be fighting Somalian ships and even chasing the pirates onto land, into one of the most broken countries on earth. But behind the arrr-me-hearties oddness of this tale, there is an untold scandal. The people our governments are labeling as "one of the great menace of our times" have an extraordinary story to tell -- and some justice on their side.

Anticipatory Warfare--Gift of the Mafia?

When George Herbert Walker Bush famously announced the New World Order, I naively thought he meant that from then on, January 1991, the nations of the globe would purchase and pay for what they wanted from others, rather than attempt to take them by force. The Saddam Husseins of the world were to be taught that lesson and no more would the invasion of another country be countenanced.

Much later, when Donald Rumsfeld, the Secretary of Defense for Bush the Younger, addressed Congress, it became clear that what was meant was that from now on instead of Old Europe, the New World, and, specifically, the behemoth sitting astride the North American continent, would be giving the orders and the nations of the world would have to do what they were told.

Air Force--Assassins and Sundries

Every now and then it seems advisable to check in on our United States Air Force, currently being directed by Michael B. Donley in his second tour as Secretary, having been approved by the Senate on October 2, 2008 after the prior Secretary was canned by Robert Gates.

No doubt, Secretary Donley is not responsible for the continuing turmoil nor the persistent aspirations to grandeur.
