Reproductive rightsThe Global Poverty Act
I'm writing on behalf of the Borgen Project- a seattle based non profit organization working to bring political attention to severe poverty. You can learn more about our organization through theborgenproject.org.
As you will see we have created the Global Poverty Act which has passed in the House and now we're trying to pass in the Senate. The way you can help is severly important and takes only thirty seconds to help pass this act. We need roughly a dozen people (however the more the merrier) in New Hampshire to call Senator Sununu's office at (603) 647- 7500 and simply tell the staffer on the phone: “I’m a Borgen Project supporter and I would like the Senator to cosponsor the Global Poverty Act.” People can also email his office here: sununu.senate.gov. If you and your members can make the call or shoot an email it would greatly help the cause. You can see here (sample call log on right) how political offices tally each call and why it’s so important. Thank you so much for your consideration and let me know if I can answer any questions. Comments wanted for article on the 2008 Presidential Primary
Hello,
I am currntly working on a series of articles for www.newhampshireprimary.blogspot.com, as well as a possible short book on the upcoming 2008 New Hampshire Presidential Primary. Anyone interested may contribute comments or thoughts by emailing me at dwa@unh.edu or comment here. The piece/pieces will focus on the views of New Hampshire voters and their preferences in terms of the candidates. Namely, I'd like to know what issues New Hampshire voters care about the most, and the candidates they feel best represent their interests. One may also want to comment on past elections, campaign experiences, etc... Thanks! Edward L. Rowan running for State Representative (Rockingham 13)
Exeter, NH — Democratic candidate Edward L. Rowan is one of seven Democratic candidates for the State House district that includes Exeter, North Hampton and Stratham. This year, the candidates are going beyond shared views and values; they are pooling time and resources by running together as a team.
"This year's race for state representatives in District 13 promises to be very interesting. Democrats in the community have put together a very dynamic team," stated Rep. Eileen Flockhart in a "Letter to the Editor" of the Exeter News-Letter. "Ed Rowan of Exeter is a retired physician whose main concerns are that all children have access to affordable health care, that women retain the right to choose and that there is an equitable solution to the school funding dilemma that does not penalize seniors on fixed incomes." If elected and ultimately appointed to the child and family law committee, Dr. Rowan will provide valuable expertise on children's issues to Rep. Flockhart and other members of the House of Representatives. Roe v Wade in the real world (outside Washington DC)Alito’s
real test is in South Dakota -
by Ellen Goodman, Friday, January 13, 2006 This is the only clinic in the state and this is the only day in the week when a woman can get an abortion in South Dakota. Today, they’ll be treated by one of four doctors flown in from Minneapolis because it’s impossible to recruit locally. Today’s doctor is Miriam McCreary, a mother of four and grandmother of nine, who graduated from medical school in 1958. At 70, she still knows "how desperate women are to end their pregnancies." THINK DYNAIC GROUP (Federal)Tue, 09/27/2005 - 7:00pm NHDP, 2.5 Beacon St, Concord, NH The Democratic State Committee is forming a group of activists and volunteers to strengthen our approach to Congressional Elections, sharpen the message of Democratic candidates for Federal office, and enliven discussion among Democrats on issues that are relevant and crucial to the citizens of New Hampshire. The THINK DYNAMIC GROUP will lead this effort. The Democratic Party is the party that stimulates public debate by offering a platform that supports people and their families. The Mission Statement of THINK DYNAMIC is to invite all Democrats who focus on public policy issues, along with other Democrats, to participate in a recurring series of forums for the development of issues of interest to Democrats and Democratic candidates for Federal office. A Steering Committee is now being formed with an objective of establishing these discussion forums throughout the State; motivating local Democratic leaders to gather local opinion; and empowering citizens by providing them with an opportunity to voice their concerns and create a vision of the future for themselves and their families. Feature story: The right-wing power brokers behind Craig Benson
This article sums up an in-depth series about the right wing in NH. I've purposely kept it short for distribution to the New Hampshire press prior to the election. I'll return to a much more in-depth analysis in the weeks to come.
On October 7, the Union Leader reported that veteran political operative David Carney will head up field organization, event planning and overall strategy for Governor Benson's re-election campaign. This is the same David Carney who made headlines in August for his role in a controversial Ralph Nader ballot petition drive at a George Bush event in Stratham. Mr. Carney plays politics for keeps. On July 29, the Union Leader reported that Mr. Carney had founded American Resolve, a self-described "proactive conservative political organization" based in Washington, D.C. Former Governor John Sununu and national conservative power broker Grover Norquist are the co-chairmen of American Resolve. Mr. Carney is the executive director. I won't list the impressive credentials of Mr. Carney and Mr. Sununu. Suffice to say that these guys are connected at every level of conservative politics — everyone returns their calls. NH pharmacist denies woman prescription
The Concord Monitor reports on a Laconia pharmacist who invoked a conscience clause, which allows pharmacists to refuse to fill a prescription for any reason, including their personal religious beliefs, and refused to fill a woman's prescription for emergency contraception. As of August 2004, the Kaiser Family Foundation reports that NH is one of the few states in the union without a refusal clause on the books. New Hampshire rates a "B" grade in health care choice from NARAL, which also notes that Governor Craig Benson recently enacted the first anti-choice law in the state since 1893.
