Watching the Right Wing

Perhaps we need to be checking out what the right wing is doing on a regular basis, by visiting their websites and informing ourselves on their activities.

This is the website for the Christian Coalition, and a quote from their current postings:
http://www.cc.org/
quote "I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your time and effort in getting millions of Christian Coalition voter guides (English & Spanish) distributed to your family, friends, churches, Christian bookstores and neighborhoods all across America. To the Pastors, I thank you for your courageous stand to put the voter guides in your churches. You have all played a major role in educating pro-family voters so they can make an informed choice on Election Day..." Roberta Combs President
Christian Coalition- Unquote

Can we have a team of watchers for certain websites so we know what they're thinking and doing.

good idea

and i know nobody in congress has the cojones to do this, but why are these churches still getting tax-free status when they are effectively operating as PACs?

great point

about operating as PACs, although some would argue that African American churches operate the same way when pastors cede their preaching time to candidates on a Sunday morning.

Julia's point is really good, about monitoring other websites, so at least let's start with that. Then we can talk about whether pursuing the latter point would be worthwhile...

The truth is that a strict reading of the Establishment Clause would seem to ban any kind of subsidy of churches by our government - including granting them tax-exempt status. But would it really be good for our nation to do that? Many churches would not survive without that subsidy, and they certainly do contribute a lot to society in terms of education (think Catholic schools) and charity (like soup kitchens and homeless shelters). It's a complicated situation.
