Democratic Party platform

Alex and Herb recommend that we set aside 30 minutes Saturday to review the proposed Democratic Party Platform. Modifications to it are due no later than Monday at 5PM. (Alex gives a Mea Culpa for saying there was no agenda. Both of us are navigationally challenged when it comes to this site) :)

Platform and Agenda

I like this idea, but note that not everyone is going to the convention on Saturday...can we make this an optional item for those so interested, and given the schedule, which is pretty tight already, have this sesssion run from 1-1:30pm?

works for me

I'm happy to stay an extra half hour to discuss the Dem Party Platform.

Amendments

Or about reaching out to old-fashioned New England Republicans?

No, not in a spineless unprincipled compromisey way, but saying, "Hey, all you people who want to belong to a party that favors individual liberties, fiscal responsibility, accountability, and sound investments in our future: we're over here! What are you doing over there?"

And how about one giant omnibus noncontroversial amendment to fix all the grammatical screwups? Alex? I've already compiled a fair list.

Good idea

I agree with this. All of us delegates to the state convention should have received copies of the proposed platform in the mail, so let's bring them tomorrow.

Can anyone explain what the process is? Clearly we need to submit a possible amendment by Monday, and I understand that delegates will have an opportunity to speak to their amendment at the convention. But how exactly do we vote on these amendments? Is it 50% + 1? Is there a different threshold? It might be interesting to propose an amendment and then for several of us to speak at the convention and encourage other former Dean supporters and like-minded people to vote for it...

Which then leads me to... What kind of an amendment might we propose? Maybe one about a grassroots focus? Or about reaching out to non-voters?
