Last Night's Debate

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Last night I listened to John Kerry and George Bush debate the future of our country. During the debate Mr. Bush frequently returned to the sad events of September 11th to justify the dangerous path he has chosen, a path which sends good men and women to die and kill in a country that has not, and could not attack us. During Mr. Bush’s four years in office I have watched fear spread like insecticide seeping into every corner of our lives, words like evil, terror, and war dominating the news. Mr. Bush has asked us to let him stand on his record. I do let him stand on his record.

Immediately after September 11th, the people of this great nation, stood proudly and bravely together, determined to defend ourselves from whatever unseen enemy might wish to harm us. The world stood beside us in our grief and offered the open hand of friendship. Today, the world no longer stands beside us. Although Mr. Bush frequently speaks of his coalition, it is no surprise that even the British are drawing down troops in Iraq. While Mr. Bush speaks of progress, the insurgency in Iraq has grown from an estimated 5,000 resistance fighters to as many as 40,000 - 50,000 according to the Deputy Commander of Coalition forces, British Major General Andrew Graham. Iraq, which had few al Queda terrorists before our invasion, now has an estimated 4,000. I cannot imagine how terrifying it must be for the soldiers in Iraq right now . If they dare speak out about what is happening they run the risk of being imprisoned by their own country. If they should die, a family member can be arrested for asking, “Why did my son die in Iraq?” I do let Mr. Bush stand on his record.

John Kerry told of two soldiers, returned from active duty in Iraq, who spoke to him as they were all standing in a rope line. They said, “We need you. You’ve got to help us over there.” By the end of the debate, it was obvious that John Kerry has the courage and strength to lead us on a new path. His words will be hope, truth, and friend. I want to live in his world. I will ask Mr. Bush to stand on his record, and I will cast my vote for John Kerry.

Final clarification for Ourglass

Ourglass, I will respond now for the final time to your question about DFNH endorsed candidates. DFNH has endorsed only 13 candidates, all of whom are state and local candidates and all of whom are fiscally responsible, socially progressive. Like yourself, other DFNH members are free to post their opinions on the website. And as in the case of your own postings, while we enjoy the discourse and freedom of expression, the opinions of DFNH members who post to the website do not necessarily reflect the viewpoint or even the mission of the organization.

Debate

Wow, again, I was refused answers to my questions, and reading this post it is clear it is ok to speak on this campaign as long as it's pro-Kerry. Did I miss something of didn't Kerry talk about another UN resolution? Didn't he speak of some global litmus test if we are to take action? I recall one of his speeches where he indicated he would act swiftly if we were ever attacked again - I don't want to wait until an attack, that's too late and after there are deaths. I realize you are going to find some soldiers that support Kerry's point of view - after all, look at his history as a soldier. However, don't fail to give the rest of the soldiers a voice as well. From soldiers I know personally in Iraq - they are afraid of Kerry being elected and want to keep Bush in office. So two soldiers don't equal all those men and women over there and it's deceptive to try and tell America it does.
Why is it so important to him that we receive the support of the Countries that are being identified as having a monitary interest in keeping Sadam in power? Those Countries sold out the safety, health and well-being of the Iraqi citizens when they scammed all the money from the Oil for Food program at the cost of the citizens. It's no wonder they didn't want the war. Never before have I been so disappointed in Democrats. War has never been something that was quick and easy and it always involved sacrifice. What you are doing is selling out our troops with all the negative talk and never giving them credit for all the good they are doing and have accomplished in such a short time. Those lives lost are useless when you listten to a Democrat speak - but when you look at all the millions that are free to speak out now without fear of having their tongues cut out - well, that's something isn't it?
So if the DFNH wants to hide from real questions with the comment they can't get involved in the campaign, they are simply lying and that says a lot about how they can't defend much about "their" candidate. I may be only one voter, but I have reach outside of my own home and I will use it to show what my experience has been trying to get answers.
Also, I don't think Bin Laden and Al Queda are "the only terrorists" we need to focus on. Unless Kerry has missed something, all terrorists groups have joined together for a worldwide offensive against anyone they consider an infidel. I prefer someone that doesn't label a terrorist to determine if they are worthy of being stopped - but just aims at those considered a terrorist.
