Women's Group Presents Award Winning Documentary on Voting Issues~Features Area NH Voters

Asks for help in National Election Defense Alliance Exit Polling/Filming

October 27, 2008
Amherst, NH - If you have been concerned by the recent reports of election chicanery and voter disenfranchisement, the area based women's group, Women Making a Difference (WMD) will present an opportunity to put your outrage and energy to work on election day to help. Over the last three years, the WMD group has presented numerous documentary films on burning issues of the day to inform and educate the public.

With the aid of area Wilton Theater owner, Dennis Markaveritch, the group will present a one-time showing of the winner of the 2008 Sunscreen Documentary, "Holler Back: (Not) Voting in an American Town" on Sunday, November 2 at 4:30 pm at the Wilton Town Hall Theater. The film explores why more people, especially young people, don't vote. Revealing interviews with non-voters draw one in, as one after another they express their anger and lack of faith in a corrupt and unresponsive system.

"Holler Back" takes place during the contentious 2004 presidential election and focuses on the entrenched problems of our elections from twisted complexities of the electoral college to easily hackable voting equipment. Filmmaker, Lulu Fres'dat traveled from NYC to interview several area residents in NH, and clips are included in the film. Footage from the National Election Integrity Project and Democracy for New Hampshire filming of Wilton, NH 2004 hand count for that election is also highlighted.

After the film, a representative from Election Defense Alliance, Sally Castleman, will be on hand for a discussion, recruitment and brief training of volunteers to participate on election day, Tuesday November 4 in the project for Election Verification Exit Poll (EVEP) with the Warren Poll.

One may also go to the websites:

to learn how citizens can 'protect the count' with filming procedures even after exit polling is finished on election night.

This effort is being handled nation-wide as an important part of citizen oversight in helping expose potential problems with our current electoral systems and providing the justification for meaningful reforms.

Since 2000 battleground states and swing states are most vulnerable to unreliable media based polling statistics and irregularities. New Hampshire has been considered a battleground state seeking to make elections transparent, encourage voting and rely on valuable citizen input even when 81% of the votes in the state are counted by secret proprietary optical scan machines, which have been proven in other states to be easily hackable.

Area candidates who are running for elected office are also encouraged to attend to inform themselves about what has happened in New Hampshire to maintain election integrity. Also attending will be NH State Representative Betty Hall, Brookline, a member of NH Fair Elections Committee as well as a member of WMD. She will present what has occurred on the state level, since she also serves on the NH House Committee for Election Law.

The film and discussion are open and free to all. Donations for the project will be accepted at the door.
