Message about special interest money in NH campaigns from Steve Spratt - Candidate, NH Senate District 11
As of this writing I have yet to accept any special interest money for my campaign for NH Senate District 11. As many of you are aware there is great historical precedent and pressure to do so. There are many who do not believe we can fund a senate campaign without such monies. I believe we have the opportunity to do something special. Tonight I am writing to all Democratic town chairs with a challenge. I am asking that the word be put out immediately that we are going to take this seat without strings. I am asking all of you to contact your mailing lists, friends and supporters of fair and open elections and urge them to visit stevespratt.com and make a donation.
The website was brought up 48 hours ago when the timing was right. While still under construction the key elements are there including the on-line contribution function. My goal was and is to garner 100 or more donations in the next 72 hours. (As of this writing that would be by the end of the day on June 4th) This is an average of just 10 donors per town in the district. Whether it is $10.00 or $1,000.00 I want to send a clear message that this is a process to be reckoned with. New Hampshire as you know will get a great deal of media attention in the coming months. I believe we have a unique opportunity that will not soon come again to bring the tax and funding debates to the forefront. I know I ask a lot but the there is a lot at stake. When we announce the website hits on Thursday morning that "in the last 72 hours over 100 people donated over 'x' dollars to the Spratt for Senate campaign," we will grab the media and we will not let go. All people have to do is log on to www.stevespratt.com and select the 'contribute' button. I am asking that they give what they can afford to invest not simply in my campaign but in New Hampshire and the political process. Much has been accomplished over the last two years including protecting a woman's right to choose, establishing a statewide smoking ban, establishing a renewable portfolio standard and finally moving the debate on education adequacy. But there is still much to be done. It has taken a lot of planning and conviction to get to this moment in time. Now the success of the effort lies in your hands and others who seek change in the political process. By the first reporting date of June 15th we must be able to prove that financially we are in this to win. I hope I can count on your support. My best regards, Steve Spratt The towns in District 11 in Cheshire County are Jaffrey & Rindge; in Hillsborough County; they are Amherst, Greenville, Milford, New Ipswich, Peterborough, Sharon, Temple, and Wilton. |
