Film: Soldiers of ConscienceSun, 05/25/2008 - 7:00pm Peterborough UU Church PETERBOROUGH --- Memorial Day will start one evening early this year with a special film presentation of Soldiers of Conscience at the Peterborough UU Church at 7:00 PM on Sunday, May 25th. Soldiers of Conscience is a realistic look at war, yet optimistic about peace, and the power of moral reasoning. Made with permission from the US Army, Soldiers of Conscience includes previously unseen footage of basic training and the war in Iraq. The film reveals that far more soldiers refuse to kill than we might expect. From West Point grads to drill sergeants, from Abu Ghraib interrogators to low ranking reservist-mechanics; US soldiers wrestle with their conscience over taking the lives of others. Co-producer-directors Catherine Ryan and Gary Weimberg have been making award-winning documentaries for over 20 years. Their films, and films they have worked on, have won national Emmy Awards, were nominated for Academy Awards; and have been seen and won "best of" awards in festivals around the world. Due to graphic scenes of war, it is recommended that children not attend. Co-sponsored by the Congregation’s Social Justice Committee and NH Peace Action. The event is free and open to the general public. For more info: 924-9750. |
