Hampton Jefferson Jackson Dessert event

According to Congressional Quarterly Politics, Carol Shea-Porter’s election to Congress last November “was one of the biggest House upsets in the nation.” So, what has Carol been doing in Washington since her election?

You can find out by attending the Hampton Democratic Committee’s Jefferson-Jackson dessert reception scheduled from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21 in the Wheaton J. Lane Room of the Hampton Lane Library. Carol will be the featured speaker at this event.

We have much catching up to do. Despite drawing a low number in the lottery for House offices assigned newly-elected freshmen, Carol got one of the best. How did that happen? Although a freshman legislator, Carol was appointed to the powerful Education and Labor Committee. How did that come about? To top that, she was selected for the prestigious Armed Services Committee, a post that will enable her to oversee the war in Iraq and look after the interests of Portsmouth Navy Yard. How did she get on that committee? Those are big-time appointments for a newly-elected congresswoman.

Carol gave her maiden speech (and a few more) on the floor of the House of Representatives. How were they received? Where is she living during the week in Washington? And she is sporting a stylish new hair-do. You won’t want to miss it.

At the reception, a variety of home-made desserts, coffee, tea, and soft drinks will be served. Watching your weight? Not to worry. A fruit bowl alternative will be available.

As always, the price of tickets for the Jefferson-Jackson dessert reception will be modest, the proceeds being used to support our Democratic candidates. Tickets in advance are $10.00 each. Tickets at the door are $15.00 each. Seating is limited. Mail a check made out to the Hampton Democratic Committee to Gary Patton, Chair, Hampton Democratic Committee, 78 Hayden Circle, Hampton, NH 03842 to secure the lower price for your tickets.
