Coalition Forms to Support Marijuana Decrim Bill, Hearing Wednesday!

Concord, NH (Jan. 13) -- The NH Coalition for Common Sense Marijuana Policy launched its website today and announced support for a bill that would decriminalize marijuana in New Hampshire. Sponsored by Reps. Charles Weed (D-Keene), Paul Ingbretson (R-Haverhill), and Steve Vaillancourt (R-Manchester), House Bill 92 is scheduled for consideration by the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee on Wednesday, Jan. 17. The hearing will take place at 10:30 a.m., in Room 204 of the Legislative Office Building, Concord.

The text of this bill was only made available Jan. 11, so activists are working quickly to prepare testimony for the committee hearing. “Six days isn’t much time, but the evidence is on our side, and I know we will be able to make a compelling case for the committee,” explained Matt Simon of Amherst, a spokesperson for the Coalition for Common Sense. “If the committee is willing to give this bill the serious consideration it merits, it will conclude that decriminalization is the only sensible solution to the slew of problems Marijuana Prohibition has created for New Hampshire.”

Representatives from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) and the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance (NHLA) are also expected to testify at the hearing.

To demonstrate public support for HB 92, the Coalition for Common Sense urges New Hampshire citizens to visit its website, NHCommonSense.org, and sign an online petition. The Coalition itself is a grassroots network of volunteer activists who are dedicated to decriminalizing marijuana in New Hampshire.

Good point, I am totally against this initiative. There have been several attempts so far for marijuana decrim and all of them failed. We should learn from those mistakes.
