Portsmouth Middle School
Monday, Jan. 15, at 11 am: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day in Portsmouth.
A celebration with City Year that has been taking place since 2000, and this year Seacoast Peace Response is a co-sponsor. It's at the Portsmouth Middle School on 155 Parrot Ave at (near the South Pond and the new library).
There will be a talk by the Rev. Lillain Buckley, music by the school chorus, and a parade through the downtown of Portsmouth led by the Leftist Marching Band. After that there is a community spirit fair where many social, environmental, and peace groups are represented. Last year Gov. Lynch spoke and stopped by with encouragement for our work.
Lunch will be served after the fair starts.
This is a very positive and upbeat look at Dr. King's work for social justice and peace, and it is a wonderful opportunity to talk with young people from the 7th through 9th grades.
We will have our big SPR banner for the parade along with a lot of little doves and maybe the new big peace dove for the parade. We will need 3 or 4 people for the tabling. They should arrive about 10:15 to 10:30 am to set up.
We should have at least 8 or 10 to make a good showing at the parade at 11am. For more information and/or confirm you can come and help and be in the parade call Wes Flierl at 603-335-6240 or e-mail wesflierl1@netzero.net or e-mail Amy Antonnuci at amyla44@juno.com.
