Lynch’s re-election. more below the fold ------------------- “As Governor, John Lynch has changed the tone in Concord, launching a new spirit of bipartisan cooperation. He has kept his promise to bring people together – Republicans, Democrats and Independents – to make real progress for the people of New Hampshire,” said former Republican Gov. Walter Peterson, co-chair of the Republicans for Lynch steering committee. “Gov. Lynch worked with lawmakers to erase a massive budget deficit, and put $50 million in the state’s Rainy Day Fund, without new taxes. He has kept his promise to exercise strong fiscal discipline while still investing in what’s important to New Hampshire’s future: education, health care, public safety, and job creation,” Gov. Peterson said. Republican Rep. Liz Hager praised Gov. Lynch for his leadership in bringing Democrats and Republicans together to pass comprehensive ethics reform. “Over the past two years, our experience working together has been marked by a spirit of openness and cooperation that had too often been missing from the halls of the State House,” said Hager. “As governor, Gov. Lynch has led by example, promoting the clean, open, and honest government that the people of New Hampshire deserve.” Hank Stebbins, a former co-chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Business Advisory Council and legal counsel to Senator Robert Dole’s Presidential Campaign, encouraged his fellow Republicans to join him in supporting Gov. Lynch. “By supporting Gov. Lynch in his bipartisan approach to governing, we have a unique opportunity to create lasting solutions to the challenges facing New Hampshire,” Stebbins said. “Today, we ask Republicans from across New Hampshire to join us in supporting Gov. Lynch to continue moving New Hampshire forward.” As Governor, John Lynch worked with Democrats and Republicans to make progress for the people of New Hampshire on a number of issues, including: passing one of the nation’s toughest and most comprehensive laws to protect children from sexual predators; eliminating a major budget deficit; repealing a law that had doubled and tripled health insurance premiums for many small businesses; protecting New Hampshire’s environment; and passing comprehensive ethics reform legislation. “I am honored to have the support of so many people – Republicans, Democrats, and Independents – who are committed to working with me in a bipartisan way to continue moving New Hampshire forward,” Gov. Lynch said. “Over the past two years, we have made real progress, but there is still more to do. As governor, I pledge to continue working in a bipartisan way to create lasting solutions to the challenges facing our state.” Members of the Republicans for Lynch Steering Committee include: Walter Peterson of Peterborough served as Republican Governor of New Hampshire from 1969 to 1973 and as former president of Franklin Pierce College.
