Deb Pignatelli for Executive Council (District 5)!

Nashua, NH — "My goals are to continue to make sure a moderate progressive voice is heard on all issues that come before the Council," says Executive Councilor Deb Pignatelli of Nashua, "I believe we need to break the logjam created by very conservative officeholders in New Hampshire and the United States, at the state and federal levels. I can do my part by winning re-election to this important position in New Hampshire state government." Democracy for New Hampshire is pleased to announce the endorsement of Deb's race in the upcoming November election. Her district includes the communities of Amherst, Brookline, Dunbarton, Fitzwilliam, Goffstown, Greenville, Hinsdale, Hollis, Jaffrey, Keene, Lyndeborough, Mason, Merrimack, Milford, Mont Vernon, Nashua, New Boston, New Ipswich, Peterborough, Richmond, Rindge, Sharon, Swanzey, Temple, Troy, Wilton, and Winchester.

Debora embodies the ideals of DFNH's mission: supporting socially progressive, fiscally responsible candidates who speak honestly about policy choices and promoting grassroots political activism in the Granite State. "Socially progressive means that we look to the future rather than look back, that we want to create opportunities for people to reach their full potential, that we oppose all forms of discrimination used to hold people back," she says, "We have to make smart investments for the future of our country, but we also have to recognize that everything cannot be done at once. I believe the wealthy need to take on a larger share of the tax burden so that vital investments can be made without running up a huge deficit."

Her goals in office are to confirm excellent candidates for the judiciary, to confirm excellent agency heads and state board and commission nominees, and to scrutinize state contracts and root out conflicts of interest. "State government is responsible for creating a vision for what the state should become in future years," says Debora, "creating economic opportunity for all citizens, setting the tone for educating our children, finding more ways to provide financial support to cities and towns, preserving our environment for future generations, and enforcing the laws."

Debora spent 5 years in the House of Representatives and 10 years in the State Senate, where she sponsored and advocated for legislative initiatives increasing funding for education, returning state surplus money to cities and towns for property tax relief, establishing anti-stalking laws, funding statewide kindergarten, reforming campaign finance laws, increasing the age for child passenger seat belts from 12 years to 18 years, increasing the cigarette tax to deter children from smoking, enhancing environmental protection, improving the foster care system, bringing a Legal Assistance Office to Nashua, and curbing violent crime, including family violence. She has been designated as one of the Ten Most Powerful Women in New Hampshire by New Hampshire Magazine and has received the Meritorious Service Award from the New Hampshire Women's Lobby, in addition to many others.
