Film: Beyond TreasonSun, 04/02/2006 - 4:30pm Wilton Town Hall Theater A local women's group, Women Making a Difference, is presenting weekly showings of timely independent films through a film series called, "Confronting the Issues." Films begin at 4:30pm on Sundays at the Wilton Town Hall Theater, Wilton, NH. The public is invited; donations at the door to defray costs, and discussions will follow the films being offered. On Sunday, April 2, "Beyond Treason" will be shown. The film deals with the effects of depleted uranium, which are appearing in returning US service men and women, as well as scores of Iraqi people, who have shown a 600% increase of cancer rates since Gulf War I. Women Making a Difference are encouraging viewing of this film in order to educate others about the growing concern of depleted uranium now in use in the present Iraq War, and to familiarize viewers with the work of Dr. Doug Rokke prior to his visit to Milford, NH April 20th. Featured in the film, Dr. Rokke speaks of his forty year military career which included combat duty during the Vietnam War and Gulf War I, from which he is now suffering the radiation effects of DU poisoning. All veterans are urged to attend this special showing. Rokke has been an advisor for numerous television documentaries on effects of nuclear, biological, chemical warfare and depleted uranium with CBS; ABC; NBC, History Channel; A & E; PBS; BBC; CBC; and German, French, Japanese, Australian, Italian, and Greek TV. Dr. Rokke is a retired officer in the US Army, former director of the US Army Depleted Uranium Project and a retired professor of science and technology at the University of Illinois. He has taught nuclear, biological, chemical warfare and emergency medicine for over 20 years to both civilian and military personnel. In the first of a series of five area talks, Rokke will be the featured speaker 7pm, Thursday, April 20th, at the "Breaking the Silence" forum on depleted uranium, Amato Performing Arts Center at the Souhegan Valley Boys and Girls Club, 56 Mont Vernon St., Milford. Women Making a Difference; Milford, Nashua and Peterborough Unitarian-Universalist Churchs-Social Responsibility Committees; NH Veterans for Peace, and NH Peace Action, will be co-sponsoring this event. Besides Milford, Dr. Rokke will be speaking at Concord, Dover, Rochester and Manchester locations during his April 20-24 visit to NH. - # - ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here are Dr. Rokke's NH tour dates: Thursday, April 20 7pm.
