Rebuild with vision

Letter sent to our NH Senators via MoveOn.org petition from Nancy White:

Please do your duty and support an independent Katrina investigation, commission and then Gulf Coast restoration action.

I personally call for a commission not like the 9/11 commission, as that one did not do their job to the best of everyone's ability nor the satisfaction of the American people. There are over 115 omissions and distortions from that final report. The American people are becoming aware of this sloppy report, and are not satisfied.

Do BETTER!

This is a chance to level with the American people, save the administration from sinking into the flood of criticism that will engulf this presidency if the public is not heeded, and implement a Gulf Coast Investigation and recommended plan of action that could include scientists and engineers from the Netherlands and Australia who are familiar with levees and alternative energy to make the Gulf Coast a model to the world that we can rebuild with the future in mind.

Remember how Australia created the Olympic Village entirely run on solar power? This could be implemented also for the Gulf Coast along with other forms of alternative energy with the homes and businesses to be built....wind energy also being an example.

Get CREATIVE, instead of relying on the oil/gas corporate giants mainlining their product to us. We deserve better and so do you.

The use of alternative energy right there at the delta from the Mississippi River, rife with the oil and gas industries, with great need to clean up the toxic stew with the work of nature on your side. Let her work her magic with proper marshlands and working levees as are in Holland. Allow us to learn from our knowledgeable world neighbors.....also an opportunity to work in collaboration with them around the world to help create something amazingly healthy, cooperative and brilliant!

I imagine flow-forms in many places on the Gulf coast, which cleanse and purify the water from the gentle forms which resemble the vertebra of the human spine. The body contains these many secrets which help and heal. This information is known in Europe...England and Germany specifically.

It would be the rare opportunity that would lead to great healing in this country, become a model for world-wide coastlines, embrace those less fortunate among us and give jobs to the poor at prevailing wage instead of Bush's rescinding of the Bacon Act, which amounts to another slap in the face of those poor residents on the coast.

Become the leaders around the world from a place of knowledge and innovation, instead of sloppiness, cronyism and greed.

Seize the moment folks for the sake of the people who will remember what you have done, how you have responded to this catastrophe, and how you can vision the future after examining what has truly gone wrong. You will be better for choosing to live with your conscious decisions that will effect everyone for the better including those that will succeed your own legacy.

History will not be kind to you if you do not heed this call to examine the destiny of this unprecedented event in the life of our dear country.

The time is NOW, not in the future. We are dealing with the future right now! Thank you for considering this karmic opportunity to make amends!

The first step begins the journey of 1,000 miles.
Thank you,
Nancy White, RN

Dying In New Orleans

Thanks for a great letter Nancy.

Just wanted to update you and the great state of New Hampshire from the scene of America's worst disaster, which it turns out was NOT man made.

The ruin of New Orleans was a man made disaster of the sort only the federal bureaucracy could create. Our levee systems are controlled by the US Army corps of engineers, and we were assured they could withstand a Category 3 hurricane. Katrina was only a Cat 3 when she slammed into our historic city, and encountered our poorly designed, built and "maintained" flood protection. For example, flood wall sheet pilings in the 17th street canal were a mere 10 feet, and were sunk into hummus and peat, like placing support walls on jello, as the local paper reported. The called for design was so simple that engineers have called the design flaws unfathomable, and the result has been deemed the costliest engineering mistake in US history. Visit nola.com to keep up with the incredible devastation to New Orleans.

George Bush Sept 15, 2005:
And tonight I also offer this pledge of the American people: Throughout the area hit by the hurricane, we will do what it takes. We will stay as long as it takes to help citizens rebuild their communities and their lives. And all who question the future of the Crescent City need to know: There is no way to imagine America without New Orleans, and this great city will rise again.

NO FED LEVEE HELP
Three months after Hurricane Katrina killed over a thousand people in the New Orleans area, the White House's top adviser on Gulf Coast hurricane relief said he hasn't yet determined whether the federal government should pay to improve the city's levee system. Donald Powell today declined to say how long it would take before a decision is made on improving the levees beyond their strength prior to Katrina. Governor Blanco and other state officials, business and homeowners say people are reluctant to return until the government commits to protect the region from future storms.

Our country has known of our vulnerabilities for 40 years, and requests for assistance have been rebuffed. We receive a miniscule share of offshore royalties, while all other similar states receive 50% to 100% of same (like Texas). When we get what we deserve, we will take care of ourselves. Meanwhile, the offshore natural gas and oil industries will continue to rape our fragile coast, which continues to escalate our land loss, increasing the effect of storm surge. We do not need handouts, we need a fair shake.

The loss of New Orleans presents a security risk for the entire US, who receives 30% of oil and gas from us. We are dying here, and have long since been forgotten. But hey, as long as the rst of the US gets their homes heated, gas tanks filled, and your products moved through our ports, I guess everything does seem normal.

We are Americans. We pay taxes. 800,000 of us left New Orleans the weekend before the storm, which was not predicted to come here until early Sat Aug 27, 2005.Our evacuation was orderly, unlike the chaos of Texas during Rita's approach. We returned as soon as we could, to see our worst fears realized. Our homes are gone, our jobs are gone, our city is dying, and "our" country could care less.

There is a growing belief that we would be better off if we were Nazi Germany after WWII, Japan after WWII, or Iraq or Afghanistan now. We spend 5 billion a month on the Iraq war, 1.6 billion to restore the IRAQI wetlands, and 1.6 billion on the tsunami. "Our" country has treated it's mortal enemies far better than it is treating our city, a historic and cultural treasure, with a port that the rest of you desperately need.

We will rebuild, we will get money for real flood protection from the royalties which are taken from us, and we will not forget that we have been treated with disdain by this government. We are indeed strangers in a strange land, and have been abandoned by our own.

If you would like to help, please write your congress people to ask that Louisiana be given 50% of the offshore royalties, and we will take care of ourselves.

The Bobble Heads Aren't Listening

A great letter! What a waste of your valuable time. The Bobble Heads don't care and aren't listening.
